Voted for motion which opposed Trident replacement Gave a speech, as Minister for Parliamentary Business and spoke about action the new Scottish Government would take - "the Government will reflect on the views of the majority of Scots and carefully consider which aspects of the plans to replace Trident impact on devolved areas. We will do what we can, using those responsibilities, to persuade the UK Government to change its stance. "We also intend to hold a summit with key stakeholders to agree a joint position against Trident and get the best ideas and proposals from an alliance of people from throughout Scottish life who oppose the son of Trident. " |

Replied to survey in November 2006 saying he was opposed to upgrading or replacing Trident and said "A replacement for Trident makes no sense strategically, economically or morally. There is intellectual case for the replacement of Trident stategically, economically, ethically or morally. I was hugely disapointed at the Labour Party members who did not vote against the principle of replacing Trident during the SNP sponsored debate on the issue in Parliament on 28th of September" Replied to survey in June 2005 saying he was opposed to Trident replacement and said "weapons of mass destruction on the Clyde to be entirely unacceptableScotland cannot continue to allow herself to be used as the base for nuclear weapons. When there is still much to be done to improve Scotland’s public services" |
