Deputy leader of Scottish Liberal Democrats.
April 2010 - Replied to a letter from Scotland's for Peace saying that she would vote against the replacement of Trident -
"If re-elected to Parliament I would vote against the replacement of the Trident nuclear weapons system. I am strongly committed to the goals of the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and I believe that a vital step in convincing other countries to disarm - or not to develop nuclear weapons in the first place - is to make steps towards disarmament ourselves, by reducing our stockpile of nuclear weapons.
"The Trident system was designed for the Cold War. Since then, our security situation has changed a great deal, and the main security threat we face comes from terrorist networks, against whom nuclear weapons are useless. As you are aware, Trident does not provide the 'independent' nuclear deterrent that Labour and the Tories believe it does: http://www.heraldscotland.com/news/politics/revealed-how-uk-s-nuclear-bombs-are-built-by-america-1.987198
"The Liberal Democrats are calling for Trident to be included in the Strategic Defence Review which will take place after the General Election. I believe that we must look at cheaper, more efficient alternatives as the next step on the road to full multilateral nuclear disarmament."
2009 - Signed EDM 1883 calling for Trident to be included in the Defence Review. Signed EDM 660 calling for a delay in the Initial Gate of Trident Replacement.
14 March 2007 - Voted against the Government motion which called for the renewal of Trident
November 2006 - Replied to survey asking if she would oppose the upgrading or replacing of Trident - "Not decided" and said "as the Government have not yet published the information they have as regards assessments of the future security theats and so on. I join the rest of my Party in calling for a full Parliamentary debate, and asking the Defence Secretary to map out the Government's position on the future of the nuclear deterrent and the options it is considering. Until we have a full and frank debate, I think it is impossible to make an informed decision on the subject of Britain's future nuclear deterrent."
2005 - Supported EDMs 1113 and 1197 , and 1802 calling for a debate on Trident replacement
