Voted against motion, ie to stop the Parliament from opposing the renewal of Trident
Views on nuclear weapons:

Replied to survey in November 2006 with the followign summary of the Conservative position:

"Conservative leader David Cameron said he agreed with the Prime Minster 'about both the substance of this decision, and about the timing'.

" It is a vital matter for our national security. It requires a
long-term approach.  And I hope we can work together on this issue for the good of our country.

" On this side of the House, we have always believed that
Britain should have an independent nuclear deterrent. And it is good to see that this is now so firmly part of a national political consensus."

Trident Debate 21 December 2006:

Voted against an SNP motion and a Lib Dem amendment. Both called on the UK Government not to go ahead at this time with the proposal to replace Trident.

By voting this way he prevented the Parliament from taking a stand against Tony Blair's plan to replace Trident submarines in 2024 and to keep nuclear weapons in Scotland until 2055.
