Replied to a letter from Scotland's for Peace saying that she would vote against the replacement of Trident -

" Trident is an outdated and unrequired weapon of war. Renewing it is totally misguided, setting exactly the wrong example to other nations across the world.

Furthermore it is a huge waste of public money that could be put to much better use on a wide range of different ways, especially at the current time when public spending is subject to cuts.

The SNP has a long history, dating back to the 1960s, of opposition to nuclear weapons, and will continue to maintain that opposition.

On a personal level I first began supporting Scottish CND whilst a student and have been on many protests over the years.

On a related matter, in my professional life, I have campaigned for tighter controls on the international arms trade. I have done this via a campaign called Control Arms, which is championing an International Arms Trade Treaty, a treaty which is slowly working its way through the UN’s internal processes.

If elected I can assure you not just of my support for the removal of nuclear weapons from Scotland, but also that I will take proactive action on this issue in the House of Commons and in other ways as they present themselves. I also agree that the issue of nuclear weapons should be included in any future defence or security review."
