43 MSPs from the SNP, Green, SSP, Solidarity, SSCUP and independents have always voted to oppose Trident replacement. 15 Lib Dem MSPs voted in December 2006 to oppose the current proposal. 7 Labour MSPs have voted against Trident replacement on at least one occassion. This gives a total of 65.

2 Lib Dem MSPs were not present in December but are likely to vote against the current proposal. 1 Labour MSP has abstained. The views of the Presiding Officer and independent MSP Brian Monteith are not known.

17 Conservative MSPs and 42 Labour MSPs have voted to prevent the Parliament from opposing Trident replacement. This includes several Labour MSPs who have said they are opposed to Trident replacement.

The following summary of how the Parliament has voted in three debates shows that opposition to Trident replacement has grown -

(1) 4 May 2006 Green party motion -38 for, 73 against, 4 abstained and 14 did not vote.

(2) 28 September 2006 SNP motion 44 for, 72 against, 2 abstained and 11 did not vote.

(3) 21 December 2006 Liberal Democrat amendment 57 for, 62 against, 10 did not vote.

Opposition is greater than these votes alone would indicate.
